SATURDAY 16th NOVEMBER – CELEBRATE THE SSCR CENTENARY FUND RAISING DINNER IN COMPANY WITH FRED MACAULAY

Dr Keith Dawson and members of the Committee of Management are delighted to invite you to the Societies centenary dinner on Sat 16t h November in the City Quay hotel, Dundee. To mark this auspicious occasion we wish to create an opportunity for Society members and friends to come together in celebration, but also to raise funds for the Societies Research investment fund.

SSCR has been the recipient of various bequests and other funds over the years. These have been invested to provide an annual income which is used for the following purposes;

  • to organise field and crop trials and meetings for the exchange of information
  • to generate science-based publications for the benefit of the membership
  • to maintain contact with members through the crop sub-committees, and their activities who would not otherwise be supported by other organisations.
  • To, facilitate research at James Hutton Institute to open up new areas of research of interest to members with the purpose of generating much greater funding in the future.

The society supports and sponsors the James Hutton institute’s three agri-science field events namely: Fruit for the Future, Arable Scotland and Potatoes in Practice with a view to bringing new varieties and innovative Integrated Crop Management (IPM) practices to the notice of members.

In addition, the combinable and energy crops, potato and soft fruit sub committees organise winter meetings and information days to disseminate research findings and other information of relevance to their respective industries.

The Investment Fund has been skilfully managed by Ian Ivory over many years and it is the committees wish to raise funds to boost the value of the portfolio so that the society can continue to support more and bigger projects of direct relevance to members. Despite global economic challenges, brought on by war with the resulting regional instability, the investment portfolio remains sound but in order to proof it against future shocks the Society seek to grow the fund to help safeguard it’s core purpose.

How can you help and participate? There will be a maximum of 23 tables of 10 each table costing £900 (£90 a head) and these will be allocated on a first come first served basis. We very much hope you will take a table and invite family, friends and supply chain partners to join you for what is going to be a superb evening. The evening will include a after dinner speaker and an auction raising funds for the charity. In addition to inviting you to consider taking a table the organising committee are seeking your support with the donation of an auction prize. We are looking to secure ten or more high value items for auction on the night, your generous support would be greatly appreciated.

We are delighted to announce that Scotland’s very own Fred MacAulay will be our master of ceremonies and comedy entertainment for the evening . A native of Rattray and Blairgowrie we are delighted to have secured his services and feel certain his turn of wit and humour will keep us all very well entertained.
